MY FRIENDS AND FANS, MY FOLLOWERS, Ladies and gentlemen, how are you today, I hope you are doing well. I once again welcome you to RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT where all issues relating to relationships are discussed. Today, please come with me, let's together look at the whole issue of marriage breakups vis-a-vis the factors adduced for it's being rampant all over the world . Amongst other reasons, some of them that are common to marriage breakups irrespective of region, tribe, country or culture are:-
. 🌑 infidelity
. 🌑 money/finances
. 🌑 unrealistic expectations by either of the parties
. 🌑 lack of communication
. 🌑 lack of intimacy
. 🌑 extra-marital affairs
. 🌑 constant arguing
. 🌑 not being prepared for marriage
. 🌑 physical/emotional abuse
. 🌑 differences in life values and
. 🌑 differences in background and orientation among others.
Ladies and gentlemen,my friends, my followers if you like, the above may be regarded as primary or internal reasons for marriage breakups. They are indeed responsible for about 90% of divorce in the U.S, Europe and other countries that are purely of western cultures. However, here in African, specifically in Nigeria, conversely, more than 80% of marriage collapse are due to other, external factors, influences or influencers. They are external in that they are originated, instigated, influenced, encouraged or out rightly imposed by others rather than by the couple themselves.
My dear friends, are you wondering why this is so or could be so. Yes, it is because in Africa, specifically in Nigeria, by culture and traditions, it is believed that, and in reality, a man marries not only the wife but the entire family, he marries her father, her mother, her brothers and sisters, her uncles, nephews and cousins, her friends and all other of her relatives. Similarly, the woman marries not only the husband but his entire family, relatives and friends. Further, my friends you wonder why is it so, what are the implications of this culture and tradition. It simply means that even after the wedding, all of these relatives and friends from both sides remain active stakeholders and participants in the marriage dictating what happens or what does not happen regularly, actively, positively or negatively.
Looking at this culture and it's implications, which in most cases has turned out to be negative on many marriages, the Yorubas coined out a proverb that" it is better to have bad wife than having a bad inlaws"
Therefore my dear friends, whether you are married or old enough and thinking of marriage,
take note of all of these factors, take note of both primary, internal factors, take note of the external factors, take note of the so many influencers in African marriages. Put together, they are the core reasons which young men of today though could not understand but are afraid of in going into marriages, they are the real reasons why they are foot-dragging on marriage.
Ladies and gentlemen, accordingly be guided, develop around all of these appropriate skills physically, emotionally, physiologically, mentally and spiritually.
