DIVIDE AND RULE AS A POLICY INSTRUMENT

MY DEAR FRIENDS,MY FANS,MY FOLLOWERS,ladies and gentlemen,in one of my old POSTS,I spoke extensively on workplace politics, pointing out that it could be healthy in which case it leads to higher productivity for the organization represented, that healthy workplace politics also enhances healthy workplace environment. I equally pointed out that unhealthy politics lead to and manifest in nepotism,favouritism,rivalry and bitterness all at the expense of the organization represented vis-a-vis profitability and efficiency for in most cases, it is either the right man is not given the right job or he is denied of the right tools,authorities and incentives required for effective performance and service delivery. NOW divide and rule originally,ordinarily was a policy instrument introduced and used by the emperors ( of the empires) to segment and subjugate their subjects with a view to disorganizing them and subsequently gain firm foothold on everyone of the subjects to the disadvantage of all of them ( the subjects). It is a policy instrument used in politics , war execution and prosecution and in some cases international diplomacy. We see even today the introduction,the use and the resultant effects of DIVIDE AND RULE in conflicts and underdevelopments of most African countries as masterminded by the colonial masters, we see even today the introduction,the use and the resultant negative of DIVIDE AND RULE among brothers in Asian countries as manipulated by the then their colonial masters. Basically,wether in politics, war situation or in an organization, the hidden objectives of DIVIDE AND RULE policy instrument has always been but not limited to :- . -create and encourage divisions among people,subjects, colleagues or workers . -aid and promote those who are willing to cooperate even where the national,group or . organizational goals will suffer. . -foster distrust and enmity among people,subjects,colleagues or workers . -encourage meaningless expenditures that reduce the capacities of the government, . ,group or organisations to make meaningful progress, productivity,profit . all to the advantage of DIVIDE AND RULE master minder. Ladies and gentlemen, the above are the origin,the nature and the forms of divide and rule as so far seen in various spheres of man. Now as a coach in career success and career management, for today and the purpose of this POST,I will draw conclusions and lay emphasis on the effects of divide and rule on professionals and career people and possibly on what to do. Yes, it is unethical,unprofessional,never an official management policy anywhere,the fact is divide and rule has since found its way to the corporate world as tools,methods and approaches used by the master minders to create and encourage divisions among colleagues, to foster distrust and enmity,to induce meaningless expenditures at the expense of the organization represented and to the advantage of the master minder. More dangerously, divide and rule is used as a tool of office politics to get at and ultimately eliminate perceived enemy,threat or obstacle. Now, each time professionals and career people bring up this issue for discussion and possibly the solutions, I do make a number of points:- 🌑 that professionals and career persons should recognize workplace politics and it's . subset(divide and rule) as issue in their personal career management. . 🌑 that divide and rule is unethical,unprofessional and never management policy . anywhere . 🌑 that the promoters of divide and rule in workplaces never does it for the sake . of the organization they represent but most essentially for their personal gain . 🌑 that the master minders do not in reality enjoy the support of all,but a loner . or at best with a handful collaborators. . 🌑 that he/she does it to a lot of other people in the organization. . 🌑 that working with like-minds , tactically he/she might actually be beaten to his . or her own game. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MAY REQUIRE TIME,TACTICS AND PATIENCE. Now as a professional,a career person and a progressive corporate player who is more focused on managing people,systems and processes to deliver superior services to to organization represented,recognising existence of workplace politics and it's subset of divide and rule method of implementation is a must. It is only then a counter program can be worked out and solutions packaged, for to a progressive minded corporate players,workplace politics and divide and rule represent nothing but an obstacle that must be surmounted. In career, business, relationship and other areas of human engagements, very often we create the the problem, the impression that we need the validation of every other person, their approval, yes to the extent of it's consistency with the dos and donts of our creator, all of these should be observed, there is culture everywhere, in everythig we do , the culture of your place of birth, career, business and professional cultures. I will not be the one to tell you it is wrong to observe cultures, at least to the extent of their CONSISTENCY but i can tell you that before others validate and/or approve you , you must be you, you must be your own favorite BE YOU OWN FAVORITE.

One of the most common phenomena to man is fear, fears in career, fears in business, fears in relationships, fears of rejection but by far the fears of growing to a very old age and that of going into marriage especially by men tend to be very general and outstanding. I tell you, irrespective of the nature of your fear, three of the most outstanding antidotes to defeating fears are :- for you to be of the light, be child-like, more importantly LET YOUR DREAMS BE BIGGER THAN YOUR FEARS.
